THIS DATA SHEET IS CURRENT, PLEASE CALL OUR TECHNICAL SERVICES
DEPARTMENT.
DESCRIPTION - A solvent free acrylic polymer emulsion adhesive for vinyl floorcoverings.
Dries to a permanent tacky film. Used to reduce the incidence of trowel serrations shadowing
through thin vinyl flooring. Flexible open time. Cost effective.
FOR SECURING - A wide range of sheet and tile vinyl floor coverings, including some vinyl
backed carpets. See the current STYCCOBOND Recommended Adhesives Guide for details
of specific floorcoverings.
ONTO - Sound, smooth, dry surfaces of concrete; granolithic; sand/cement screed;
STOPGAP, STYCCOSCREED and other floor smoothing underlayments; flooring grade
chipboard; plywood; hardboard terrazzo and STOPGAP waterproof surface membranes.
Asphalt must be skimmed with a minimum of 3mm of the appropriate smoothing
underlayment.
STANDARDS - All aspects of the installation of floorcoverings must be in accordance with the
requirements of BS.8203 (Installation of Resilient floorcoverings) and supplementary
specifications.
PREPARATION - Proper subfloor preparation is essential to the correct installation of any
floorcovering. Surfaces must be sound, smooth, dry and free from any contaminants which will
affect adhesion. For detailed information on subfloor preparation request our Floor Preparation
Guide booklet.
PRECAUTIONS - Do not apply too thinly as this will reduce adhesion.
DAMP BASES - Treat with STOPGAP waterproof surface membranes.
SMOOTHING - Use STYCCOSCREED or STOPGAP smoothing underlayments.
CLEANING - Use STYCCOCLEAN C140 Floor cleaner for removing grease, oil, polish, soap,
etc. from the subfloor.
PRIMING - Use STYCCOBOND F70 primer/sealer or STOPGAP P131 general purpose
neoprene primer.
TOOLS - STYCCOBOND 1.5mm x 5mm ‘V’ notched trowel and STYCCOBOND paint roller.
Tools should be cleaned with warm soapy water while the adhesive is still wet.
APPLICATION - Holding the trowel at an angle of 60°, spread the adhesive evenly over the
subfloor. Following the floorcovering manufacturer’s laying instructions and using the
guidelines given below, place the floorcovering into the adhesive and press from the centre
outwards to exclude any air; then roll from end to end and side to side using the 68 kg flooring
roller. 1 to 4 hours later roll again in two directions.
TECHNIQUES -
Absorbent surfaces: Apply the adhesive using a 1.5mm x 5mm ‘V’ notched trowel then
immediately roll with a paint roller, which has been pre-wetted with adhesive, to obtain a
smooth, uniform appearance. Floorcoverings can be placed into the adhesive immediately
although it is advisable, when installing tiles, to leave the adhesive for approximately 10
minutes before placing the flooring, reducing the potential for sliding.
Non-absorbent surfaces: Apply the adhesive as previously described but allow the adhesive to
dry to a firm tack before laying the floorcovering.
When installing impervious sheet floorcoverings, the double drop technique can be used to
reduce the time taken waiting for the adhesive to dry. Lay the flooring into the wet adhesive,
press all over to achieve transfer, then pull it back exposing the adhesive. Leave until
the adhesive has dried to a firm tack before replacing the flooring accurately in position.
Do Not use the paint roller to extend the area covered by the adhesive, as this will reduce
adhesion.
