DESCRIPTION - A rubber/resin adhesive that has good wet grab with an early
build up of strength. It is protected against bio-degradation and is suitable for
use over normal underfloor heating installations.
FOR SECURING - Fibre bonded carpets; hessian, resin, latex and rubber
foam backed carpets; cork tiles up to 3.2mm thick; some linoleum and
vinyl tiles. See the STYCCOBOND Recommended Adhesives Guide for details
of specific floorcoverings.
ONTO - Sound, smooth dry subfloors of concrete including ones with a power
floated surface finish; terrazzo; granolithic; sand/cement screed; STOPGAP
and other smoothing underlyments; flooring grade chipboard and plywood and
hardboard: wood; thermoplastic tiles and quarry tiles. Asphalt and STOPGAP
waterproof membranes must be skimmed with a minimum of 3mm of the
appropriate STOPGAP smoothing underlayment.
RELEASE BOND - Use in conj unction with STYCCOBOND F2 or the
‘Peelabond’ release system. For suitable floor coverings see the current
STYCCOBOND Recommended Adhesives Guide.
STANDARDS - All aspects of the installation of floor coverings should be
in accordance with the requirements of the relevant national British Standard
Code of Practice i.e. BS5325 (Installation of textile floor coverings) or BS8203
(Installation of resilient floor coverings) and supplementary specifications.
PREPARATION - Proper subfloor preparation is essential for the correct
installation of any floor covering. Subfloors must be sound, smooth, dry and
free from any contaminants which will affect adhesion. For detailed information
request our Floor Preparation Guide.
DAMP FLOORS - Treat with STOPGAP waterproof surf ace membranes.
CLEANING - Use STYCCOCLEAN C140 floor cleaner for removing grease,
oil, polish etc.
SMOOTHING - Use STOPGAP smoothing underlayments.
PRIMING - Use either STYCCOBOND F70 or STOPGAP P131 primer.
TOOLS - STYCCOBOND 2mm x 6mm or 3mm x 6mm ‘V’ notched trowel,
F. Ball 68kg flooring roller. F. Ball Glyda (for foam backed carpets) .
Trimming knife. Tools should be cleaned with water while the adhesive is
still wet and with white spirit if allowed to dry.
APPLICATION - Holding the trowel at an angle of 60°, spread the adhesive
evenly over an area of subfloor that can be covered whilst the adhesive remains
receptive and gives good transfer.
On absorbent surfaces - lay the floor covering immediately, except with
cork tiles.
Installing cork tiles and onto surfaces with little or no absorbency - allow
the adhesive to dry partially to a paste-like consistency before laying the
floor covering.
With deeply profiled or rough backed floor coverings-It may be necessary
to apply extra adhesive to ensure good contact. In such cases use a
3mm x 6mm ‘V’ notched trowel, this will reduce the coverage quoted.
Some unitary backed carpets, also require the large notched trowel.
Following the floor covering manufacturer’s laying instructions lay the floor
covering into the adhesive and press from the centre outwards to exclude air
and ensure overall contact with the adhesive. Roll with the 68kg flooring roller,
from end to end and side to side (on foam backed floor coverings use the Glyda)
to ensure overall contact. 30 minutes later and when the floor has been
completely covered roll or use the Glyda as necessary to ensure overall
contact is maintained.
PRECAUTIONS - Underfloor heating must be switched off at least 48 hours
before and after installation.
Do not apply loads or move furniture on the floor covering until the adhesive
has fully set.
Do not allow the floor covering to be wet cleaned until three weeks after laying.
