SUITABLE AND CONFIRM THIS DATA SHEET IS CURRENT,
PLEASE CALL OUR TECHNICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT.

DESCRIPTION - A synthetic polymer emulsion adhesive, developed to provide
a peelable bond for release underlays or permanent bond adhesive when fixing
carpets. It is water based, contains no solvent and dries to form a transparent,
permanently tack coating. The type of bond achieved is dependent on when
the floorcovering is laid into the adhesive. Laying the floorcovering into the
adhesive once it has dried enables the underlay or carpet to be lifted when
required, without significant damage to either floor covering or subfloor. Laying
the floorcovering into wet adhesive gives a permanent bond.

FOR SECURING - A wide range of carpets which include those with woven
polypropylene, Actionbac, unitary and many other backings. Also suitable
for fixing certain release underlays which have been specifically developed
for release bonding. See the current STYCCOBOND Recommended Adhesives
Guide for details of specific carpets and underlays.

ONTO - Sound, smooth, dry surfaces of concrete; granolithic; sand/cement
screed, STOPGAP and other smoothing underlayments; flooring grade
chipboard, plywood; hardboard; corrosion treated steel; thermoplastic floor
tiles; quarry tiles; terrazzo and STOPGAP F75. Asphalt must be skimmed
with a minimum of 3mm of the appropriate smoothing underlayment.

STANDARDS - All aspects of the installation of floorcoverings should be
in accordance with the requirements of BS5325 (Installation of textile
floorcoverings) and supplementary specifications.

PREPARATION - Proper subfloor preparation is essential to the correct
installation of any floorcovering. Surfaces must be sound, smooth, dry and
free from any contaminants which will affect adhesion. Existing smooth
floorings must be firmly fixed with all traces of polish removed. For detailed
information on subfloor preparation request our Floor Preparation Guide
Booklet.

DAMP BASES - Treat with STOPGAP waterproof surface membranes.

SMOOTHING - Use STYCCOSCREED or STOPGAP smoothing underlayments.

CLEANING - Use STYCCOCLEAN C140 for removing grease, oil, polish, soap, etc.

PRIMING - Use STYCCOBOND F70 or STOPGAP P131.

TOOLS - STYCCOBOND 1.5mm x 5mm ‘V’ notched trowel , or paint roller.
Tools should be cleaned with water while the adhesive is still wet.

APPLICATION - DUAL BOND SYSTEM
Peelable bond - carpets - Holding the notched trowel at an angle of 60°,
apply the adhesive evenly to the subfloor. Allow the adhesive to dry
completely to a clear tacky coating before laying the carpet. Following the
carpet manufacturer’s instructions, lay the floorcovering and press from the
centre outwards to exclude air and then apply pressure by rolling with a
68 kg flooring roller, from end to end and side to side.
Peelable bond - underlays - Apply the adhesive to the subfloor using the
notched trowel or paint roller as specified by the underlay manufacturer.
Allow the adhesive to dry completely to a clear tacky coating before laying the
carpet. Following the underlay manufacturer’s instructions, lay the material
and press from the centre outwards to exclude air and then apply pressure
using the STYCCOBOND Glyda or soft bristle broom to ensure overall adhesion.
The carpet can then be permanently bonded to the underlay immediately, with
the recommended adhesive using normal installation techniques.
Permanent bond - carpets - Holding the notched trowel at an angle of 60°,
apply the adhesive evenly to the subfloor. Leave the adhesive open for 10-15
minutes before laying the carpet. Following the carpet manufacturer’s instructions,
lay the floorcovering and press from the centre outwards to exclude air and then
apply pressure by rolling with a 68 kg flooring roller, from end to end and side to
side. It may be necessary to re-roll the carpet 30 minutes later, depending on
conditions, to ensure overall adhesion is maintained.

PRECAUTIONS - If a peelable bond is specified do not lay the underlay
or carpet before the adhesive has completely dried as this will impair its
release and may result in a permanent bond being formed.
Not all carpets are suitable for use over release underlay systems,
check with the carpet manufacturer before proceeding.
Do not apply the adhesive too thinly as this will reduce adhesion.
We would suggest that carpets are best maintained using dry cleaning
methods in preference to wet extraction, thus avoiding potential for damage
to the adhesive bond caused by excessive use of cleaning fluids.

HEALTH AND SAFETY ADVICE
Obtain the relevant Material Safety Data Sheets and follow the advice
given.
Ensure provision of adequate, constant fresh air ventilation during and after use.
AVOID PROLONGED CONTACT WITH THE SKIN - Use barrier cream or
impervious gloves for the hands. In case of contact with the eyes, mouth and
nose, wash with water and obtain medical attention.
IF SPILLED - Remove and dispose of in accordance with national and local
regulations for waste materials.
